The Bruce Collection is comprised of 100 nineteenth-century glass plate negatives from photographs taken by Lumpkin County, Georgia, photographer G.D. "Lon" Bruce in the 1880s. These items were donated to the Georgia Archives Vanishing Georgia Project by local historian Madeline Anthony. These 100 images were not used in the project and donated back to North Georgia College & State University’s Library Technology Center in 2005. In 2007, through grants from the Georgia Humanities Council and the National Endowment for the Arts and through appropriations from the Georgia General Assembly, the University Archive was able to digitize images of the negatives and rehouse the fragile glass pieces for long-term preservation.
Descriptions for each image are provided using as much detail as is available; however, many specific names and dates are still unknown. To report additional information about a particular image, please contact the University of North Georgia Special Collections & Archives, which are managed by the UNG Libraries.
