Abstract

Two of my students had been creating brush and ink drawings that investigated water's physical and metaphorical qualities. The duo invited like-minded classmates to contribute drawings to a larger exhibition titled, Bodies of Water. These artists were fascinated by the relationship between water and living beings: plant, animal and human. Their drawings honored water as a precious resource, and celebrated the myriad of organisms that water supports. For the sake of visual cohesion, every work featured in Bodies of Water was achromatic that is, black, white and shades of gray.

The LEAP into Action Grant enabled these students to frame and mat 12 artworks and rent an exhibition venue with The Bakery Atlanta, a creative making and performing space with a focus on community engagement. Organizing, promoting and installing an art show with peers proved an invaluable experience.

Biography

Hi! I am Heather Joshi. I was born in central Florida and moved around the USA's east coast throughout my childhood. As far as my education, I earned a BFA with a drawing concentration and a BA in English at the University of Florida. I earned my MFA in Painting and Drawing at the University of Georgia. Now, I am Lecturer at the University of North Georgia's Department of Visual Arts. I have shown my work in juried shows across the country and abroad. When I am not drawing, I like to look at animals, explore the Northeast Georgia region, listen to audio books and lectures, walk in the woods and attempt to cook.
