JCES Policies

Mission

The mission of JCES is to provide a mechanism through which faculty, staff, and students of academic institutions and their community partners may disseminate scholarly works from all academic disciplines. JCES accepts all forms of writing, analysis, creative approaches, and methodologies. JCES is a peer reviewed journal open to all disciplines. Its purpose is to integrate teaching, research, and community engagement in ways that address critical societal problems through a community-participatory process.

Aims and Scope

JCES is a leading journal in community engagement scholarship; one that is read, comprehended, and appreciated by both professional scholars and lay people. We are purposeful in our commitment to publishing articles that demonstrate central involvement of students and/or community partners and advance the field of community engagement scholarship, and we celebrate all forms of writing, analysis, creative approaches, and methodologies. JCES is sponsored by the Engagement Scholarship Consortium.

Open Access Statement

JCES is an open access journal, which means that all content is freely available without charge to the user or his/her institution. Users are allowed to read, download, copy, distribute, print, search, or link to the full texts of the articles, or use them for any other lawful purpose, without asking prior permission from the publisher or the author. This is in accordance with the Budapest Open Access Initiative (BOAI) definition of open access.

Creative Commons License
Works published in JCES are licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International License by default. Under the terms of this license, readers are free to share and adapt works published in JCES, as long as the appropriate attribution and credit is given to the authors. Authors also have the option of selecting a different Creative Commons License when they submit their manuscript.

As further described in our submission agreement (the Submission Agreement), in consideration for publication of the article, the authors retain copyright to their work and grant JCES right of first publication.

General Terms and Conditions of Use

Users of the JCES website and/or software agree not to misuse the JCES service or software in any way.

The failure to exercise or enforce any right or provision in the policies or the Submission Agreement does not constitute a waiver of such right or provision. If any term of the Submission Agreement or these policies is found to be invalid, the parties nevertheless agree that the court should endeavor to give effect to the parties' intentions as reflected in the provision, and the other provisions of the Submission Agreement and these policies remain in full force and effect. These policies and the Submission Agreement constitute the entire agreement between JCES and the Author(s) regarding submission of the Article.
