Student Reflections Working a Virtual Program in a Global Pandemic

Abstract

The Center for Community-Based Partnerships (CCBP) at the University of Alabama has implemented the Swim to the Top program for the past six summers to the community in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. The program offers instructor positions for undergraduate and graduate students attending the university. In the unprecedented times of 2020, the Swim to the Top program had to go virtual due to the COVID-19 pandemic. For the first time, instructors had to create content and connect virtually with the campers at the YMCA. The purpose of this article is to describe the experiences of three college student instructors participating in a virtual community engagement program during a global pandemic. The experiences shared will be from an undergraduate, masters, and doctoral student who all worked as instructors for the virtual Swim to the Top program.
