DESCRIPTION
This work is a sculpture of a piñata. While this tradition has been adopted by many cultures, the Mexican culture has always used them. They originated when the Christmas tradition of Las Posadas began and have become a staple at any Mexican celebration. The nine nights of the posadas and the piñata itself is linked the Catholic faith, brought to Mexico by the Spanish conquistadors. The piñata itself has seven points representing the seven deadly sins and it is full of color to represent the temptations of life. The title is Mi Niñez because growing up in the US as a chicana, this represents my upbringing and the upbringing of many around the world linking us to our Hispanic roots.
