Description/Abstract
This presentation combines research by three students from a Medical Spanish class on the topic of medicinal herbs that are commonly used among Hispanic patients, identifying their traditional usage and cultural significance as well as potential side-effects of these herbs and their interactions with other over-the counter and prescription medication. The student presenters will model strategies for discussing use of herbal remedies with Hispanic patients as well as providing advice and recommendations to patients that are using the herbs featured in the presentation (cats claw, chamomile, and oregano). An annotated bibliography of articles on topics related to health care and Hispanic patients is included.
