Description/Abstract
The purpose of the painting, Vector Abstraction, was to explore the merging of traditional and digital methods of producing art. In the digital world there are two types of images: rasterized (formed of pixels of color) and vector (mathematical statements calculated by computer code that form point, line, and shape). Traditionally, such as during the renaissance, images have been approached in a method more equal to rasterized images. Each brushstroke in a painting mixes with the one before it creating gradations of color and an ambiguity of shape. Vector Abstraction rejects this method and approaches a physical painting through a vector method. I abstracted a physical object in four different colors and four different views, breaking soft shadows down into hard line to create the illusion of shape and depth in a distinct, graphic style.
